World Narcissistic Abuse Awareness Day

Narcissists damage and hurt but they do so offhandedly and naturally, as an afterthought… They are aware of what they are doing to others – but they do not care.  Sam Vaknin

Today 1st June 2017 is World Narcissistic Abuse Awareness Day.  Narcissistic Abuse is a form of  psychological abuse which leaves victims with devastating emotional wounds. Check the website http://www.wnaad.com for more information on the subject. You can also check the resources page on my website where i have put web links and videos in several languages: English, French, German and Spanish.

I have written a short poem on the theme If My Wounds Were Visible, to try and illustrate what it feels like to be hurt by a narcissist.

If My Wounds Were Visible

 If my wounds were visible

Scars would be etched on my skin

By all the times he stabbed me in the back

With his smear campaigns

If my wounds were visible

My skin would be scraped and bleeding

By all the times he had me on my knees

With his silent treatment

If my wounds were visible

My ribs would be cracked in several places

By the repeated blows he dealt

With his triangulation games

If my wounds were visible

My hands would be lacerated with defensive injuries

By all the times I tried to fend off his attacks

Brought on by his narcissistic rages

If my wounds were visible

My skull would be shattered

By all the times he kicked me when I was already down

If my wounds were visible

You would be amazed I’m still standing

My wounds may be invisible to you

But the pain is real to me
